Project Summary
As Support Engineer (Network) on USAID’s Higher Secondary Education Activity — implemented through BacBon Limited — I was responsible for the day-to-day network and server infrastructure supporting the program’s operations in Banasree, Dhaka. The role combined hands-on infrastructure administration with security policy development, covering everything from virtual machines and application servers to perimeter firewalls and MikroTik-based routing.
Beyond keeping the network running, the role carried a compliance and governance dimension typical of donor-funded programs: maintaining audit-ready IT asset documentation, enforcing server-level access controls and encryption, and providing technical input into vendor selection and procurement decisions — ensuring every IT investment met both operational and organizational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure & Server Operations
- Administered virtual machines, and web and application servers supporting program operations
- Investigated, diagnosed, and resolved network issues across Layer 2 and Layer 3 devices
Network & Security Engineering
- Developed and implemented network security policies to strengthen overall network posture
- Configured and managed firewall devices and their security features
- Configured and managed MikroTik routers, including tunneling, routing protocols, and firewall features
IT Asset & Compliance Management
- Maintained audit-ready IT asset documentation in line with donor/organizational compliance requirements
- Implemented server-level security controls, including access management and encryption
Vendor & Procurement Support
- Provided technical input for the procurement and evaluation of IT solutions
- Assessed vendor proposals against organizational needs to guide sound purchasing decisions
